Working Campers @ KOA Discussion Group

This page specifically pertains to members of the Working Campers @ KOA group on Facebook. The group was started in June of 2018 as a service to others engaged in seasonal work at KOA locations across the USA and Canada. This page is not officially related to or maintained by KOA (the corporation). It is solely the work of Byron Songer with guidance and input coming from within the WK@KOA community.

Facebook Group

The Facebook group referenced above is open to membership to those who:
  • are enrolled with the KOA Work Kamper program (dues paid),
  • are serious about being working campers at a KOA, and
  • are not currently engaged in a managerial/ownership position.
Other restrictions apply and the membership challenge (three questions) must be completed prior to consideration for acceptance. Failure to complete the questions within ten days of initial request via Facebook will result in denial of group membership.

As stated, the group is for those currently engaged in the process of being a KOA Work Kamper. It is not for those with an initial interest or for those seeking entry-level information. That information may be gleaned in other ways and from other web sites or the previous page on this web site.

Submitting an Opinion

It is important that the Working Campers Opinion List have constant and regular input from colleagues. After completing a season, workers should submit an opinion regarding their engagement at a KOA. So input can be as complete as possible, consider basing remarks on some of the following criteria.

Did the managers and/or supervisors you worked with:
  1. Honor the commitments provided via communication or contract,
  2. Seek to match responsibilities with abilities,
  3. Allow reasonable latitude to carry out responsibilities without micro-managing,
  4. Listen and interact if suggestions on improvement were made,
  5. Stand behind you and not equivocate with respect to enforcing campground guidelines,
  6. Deal with all employees fairly and impartially by not seeming to play favorites,
  7. Act maturely and professionally at all times, and
  8. Interact with guests in an affirming and appropriate manner?
Be sure to mention the KOA location in your message as well as whether you would recommend the KOA to other KOA Work Kampers. Also list whether you did or did not complete the season. And,if you’d like, relate other relevant information regarding your experience at the campground.

Opinions of working campers may be sent in one of four ways.
  1. Privately communicating with Byron Songer via Facebook Messenger,
  2. Initiating a comment to Working Campers @ KOA Discussion Group,
  3. Replying to a comment posted regarding a specific campground, or
  4. Sending an email message to the group administrator.
All information supplied via private message or email will remain confidential. No comments will be published via the Working Campers Opinion List. The comments collected are used to support the conclusions published by the administrator and is held in confidence. Only opinions expressed openly to the Facebook group are subject to public exposure.
