On this page you'll find a sampling of some rather simple database work that some of you may find helpful. They've been compiled by FileMaker Advanced so you can run them on your Macintosh without owning a license for FileMaker Pro. That's the beauty of FileMaker Advanced, making runtime versions of databases the average computer user will find helpful.

Mac Users -- By clicking on a link the files will be downloaded to your computer in .dmg format. Using Mac OS X you can double-click on the file to have it opened on your desktop. Next, create a folder in your Applications folder. You can name it whatever seems appropriate to you. From that point just drag the contents of the opened disk image to the folder you just created. Contained on each disk image is the name of the applet, a file ending with the extension .USR, an Extensions folder, and an Acknowledgements.pdf file.

Windows Users -- By clicking on a link the files will be downloaded to your computer in .zip format. Using Windows you can double-click on the file to have it opened on your desktop. Next, create a folder in your Programs folder. You can name it whatever seems appropriate to you. From that point just drag the contents of the opened disk image to the folder you just created or right click and send to the appropriate location. Contained on the unzipped file in a folder is the name of the applet, a file ending with the extension .USR, plus other folder and resource files, and an Acknowledgements.pdf file.

 

Coming soon – a runtime version of my latest work called sc Genealogy lite. As you may have guessed, it is useful for basic genealogical work.


Windows users, don't fret. I'll provide Windows versions of these applets in the near future. I'm just being true to my roots by providing Mac versions first.
 
Windows Users - This is a runtime FileMaker solution for tracking maintenance information friends for GMC Motorhome owners. This solution was done with FileMaker Advanced 9.0 and includes a webviewer. When you click on the Display Map icon a new window will open displaying a map to the friends' address from Google. Users can also create PDF versions of the maintenance records. By the way, this is Version 2 and has been enhanced since it is no fully relational with the capability of keeping track of line items from work orders or repair authorizations.

Here it is, my my latest work called "sc Genealogy Lite". As you may have guessed, it is useful for basic genealogical work. Why the use of "Lite"? Because this doesn't fully compete with the more expensive genealogy programs nor does it cost as much. Enjoy using it to get started in tracing your family roots.

This runtime file is useful for capturing information about furniture and important belongings in your home. It is excellent for insurance purposes. Not only can you provide information about an article, how it was acquired, the location in your home, and the value but you can also insert a photo. Created using FileMaker Advanced 8.5.

While visiting with a brother on a recent trip, we discussed the various methods of saving and accessing family photos. What he found difficult was deciding on a way to organize the images on his computer. After giving it a little thought I came up with this runtime FileMaker Pro solution for storing photos while being able to search for the names of people and the year the photo was taken.
